Which is Better – RO Water or Bottled Water
Access to the clean drinking water has become a luxury these days. Most of the municipal corporations claim to provide clean drinking water.
Though, most of them are not capable of providing actual fresh water.
The water that is produced as tap water often has heavy metals and organic pollutants. They are found in high levels. These can create health issues in long run.
To ensure that your family has access to clean water, there are two options. First is to shift to bottled water.
The second option is to install a water purification system at home. There are pros and cons to both bottled and purified water.
The main aim of introducing different processes is to ensure that the product is clean. The bottled water is divided into the various groups.
The first of them is purified tap water. Different companies use the water provided by local Municipal Corporation.
It is then purified via RO and UV. The second group is spring water or mountain water.
Companies that deal with this type of bottled water buy or rent natural resources from the Govt. The water is treated in such a way that minerals and essential components stay intact.
Only impurities are removed. The mountain or spring water is often costlier.
Issues With Bottled Water
There is no doubt that most of the companies go through different steps to ensure the safety of the drinking water. Still, there are some issues related to bottled water.
First of all, the bottled water is very costly. The price of bottled water is more than a bottle of beer in some countries which is actually insane.
The second issue which is the chemicals that are released by the plastic.
The companies use food grade plastic in their bottles. But the environment around the bottles often reacts with plastic.
It releases some chemicals in the water making it unfit for drinking.
In case you want to check the theory, you can perform a simple experiment. Leave a bottle of water in the car for a couple of days. Make sure that the car stays under sunlight. The temperature of the car will increase. It will force the plastic to release chemicals.
These chemicals will change the taste of the water.
Thus, installing a water purification system at home is the safest. It is also the most efficient way of gaining access to clean drinking water. There are some different products available in the market.
Out of them, the RO system has been proved to be the best. The RO system is based on the filtration process by passing water through a thin membrane.
This membrane allows the water molecules to pass through. The pollutants are left behind.
It is discarded via waste water. The waste water can be re-circulated through the filtration process which makes it cost effective. This also saves water.
The RO system not only provides clean water but is also very easy to maintain. The filters need to be changed once in 6 to 9 months.
The primary filter membrane needs a change in 2 to 3 years.
The maintenance cost of the RO system is much lesser than other purification systems.
The main reason is that the RO system is designed to discard the unhealthy water and does not let the pollutants stay on the membrane.
So in conclusion, Bottled water is not the safest option. On the contrary it is actually harmful to us and the environment.
On the other hand, The RO system is capable of cleaning the sea water as well. There are some different countries which has less natural water resources.
They have installed industrial size RO system to purify the water. The water is then supplied to the general public for daily use. So choosing RO system over bottled water is a good alternative.
